An elderly Palestinian prisoner from Gaza was martyred, and the life of a Hamas leader in Israeli prisons is in danger.

The Palestinian Prisoners' Affairs Authority (governmental) and the Palestinian Prisoners' Club (civil society) said in a joint statement that the General Authority for Civil Affairs, the official liaison with the Israeli side, informed them of the martyrdom of elderly prisoner Kamel Mohammed Al-Ajrami (69 years old) from Gaza.

The two organizations stated that Al-Ajrami was martyred on October 10, after being transferred to Soroka Prison from the Negev Prison in southern Israel. They noted that he was arrested on October 25, 2024, and that he was married and had six children.

Israel often delays announcing the deaths of prisoners in its prisons, without providing any explanation for the reasons.

With Al-Ajrami's death, the number of "martyrs of the prisoner movement" since the beginning of the war of extermination in October 2023 has risen to 80 prisoners whose identities have been identified, amid the ongoing "crime of enforced disappearance affecting dozens of detainees," according to the two organizations

More than 10,000 Palestinian prisoners, including children and women, are languishing in Israeli prisons, suffering torture, starvation, and medical neglect. According to Palestinian and Israeli human rights and media reports, many of these prisoners have been killed.

The two organizations emphasized that "the unprecedented acceleration in the death of prisoners and detainees proves that the Israeli prison system is continuing to implement a policy of slow killing against them, as not a month goes by without a new martyr from its ranks." They held Israel fully responsible for the death of detainee Ajrami, renewing their call on international human rights organizations to take effective measures to hold it accountable.

In a related development, a Palestinian human rights center warned on Monday of the serious health condition of Hamas leader Mohammed Jamal al-Natsheh, currently imprisoned in Israel, as a result of neglect and deliberate torture.

The movement's Palestine Center for Prisoners' Studies said: "We warn against the occupation's attempt to assassinate the imprisoned leader, Sheikh Muhammad Jamal al-Natsheh (68 years old), from Hebron in the southern West Bank, inside prisons, by neglecting his treatment and care, despite his difficult health conditions and the recent deterioration of his health to the point of danger."

The center explained in a statement that since the leader Natsheh's most recent arrest last March, "the occupation forces have transferred him for investigation and subjected him to the most horrific forms of torture, despite his advanced age and the fact that he suffers from several illnesses."

He said that Israeli practices against Natsheh had led to "a serious deterioration in his health, causing him to suffer from memory loss and a lack of concentration, forcing the occupation to transfer him to Ramla Hospital" in central Israel.

The center stated that Natsheh is one of the most prominent Islamic leaders in the city of Hebron, and served as a member of the Palestinian Legislative Council for the Hamas movement in 2006.

Al-Natsheh was arrested dozens of times and spent a total of 23 years in Israeli prisons, most of which were held in arbitrary administrative detention without charge, indicating the occupation's policy of retaliation against him, according to the center.

The Palestinian Center for Human Rights held "the occupation authorities and the prison administration fully responsible for the life of prisoner Sheikh al-Natsheh," and called for "urgent intervention and pressure on the occupation" to save his life.
