Pediatrician Dr. dr. Dominicus Husada, DTM&H, MCTM(TP), Sp.A(K) asked the public to be aware of measles symptoms in children because it can cause serious health complications.
"The initial symptoms of measles are often considered trivial because they resemble the flu," Dominicus said in an official statement in Jakarta on Wednesday.
Dominicus said the symptoms of measles include fever, cough, and runny nose before developing into a rash all over the body, which can lead to serious complications.
If not treated properly, sufferers are at risk of developing pneumonia, severe diarrhea, and even brain inflammation (encephalitis), which are some of the serious complications of measles and can cause permanent disability or even death.
