France's Bordeaux and Bahrain's Riffa teams shone on the first day of the International Basketball Federation (FIBA) 3x3 World Tour Macau 2025 at Wynn Palace, China, on Saturday, advancing from the qualifying round to the quarterfinals.
According to the FIBA 3x3 website, as reported in Jakarta, both teams demonstrated strong fighting spirit and consistency to defeat experienced opponents on a tight opening day.
Bordeaux, ranked 11th in the tournament, have been solid since the qualifying rounds, eliminating Port Dickson KL Eagles, Taipei WanBao and others.
Despite being behind in several matches, their composure and shooting accuracy resulted in three wins from four matches.
In the Group D preliminary round, Bordeaux only lost to Chongming, but managed to beat Baskets Bonn Telekom to secure a ticket to the quarter-finals.
Likewise, Riffa took a similar path by eliminating two Australian teams, namely Brisbane and Melbourne in the qualifying round.
In the group stage, the Bahraini team recorded a surprise victory over top seeds Liman 17-13, before losing narrowly 18-21 to Ulaanbaatar MMC Energy from Mongolia.
This result still takes them to the quarter-finals with the team from Mongolia.
