Discord revealed that around 70,000 users may have had sensitive data, such as photos of their government ID cards, leaked after hackers breached a third-party vendor the platform uses for its age-related appeals process.
A Discord user can file an “age-related appeal” if the platform suspects they may be underage, or if they live in a region that requires identity verification to access the platform.
In such cases, users are asked to send a selfie holding their official ID and their Discord username to Discord's Trust & Safety team.
