Flikken Maastricht fans are struggling with Victor Reinier's departure from the series. Eric Corton is the new detective in the police series, and he says he's receiving angry reactions from viewers. "Some people are finding it difficult," he told NPO Radio 1.
Victor Reinier is leaving the popular NPO 1 series "Flikken Maastricht" after nineteen seasons. His behavior on set was so problematic that the producers decided not to continue with him. Eric Corton will appear in the twentieth season. He will play a detective, he announced Monday during an interview on NPO Radio 1.
The reactions to this are "very polarizing," says Corton. "If you're in a show that's been running for twenty years, and someone disappears and someone new takes their place, not everyone is happy about that."
Diehard fans struggle with change, Corton thinks. "They tell me I'm not Victor Reinier. And I'm not. So they were absolutely right. People have grown to love those two characters (Victor Reinier and Angela Schijf, ed.). And when one of them disappears and something new comes in, it's complicated. Some people find that difficult, and I understand that."
Corton's exact role in Flikken Maastricht is not yet known. At this time, he can only say he'll be playing a detective. The new season of the crime series will air in 2026.
