Argentina returned to second place and Germany re-entered the top 10 in the FIFA world rankings, which were just released on Friday.
"After a thrilling series of 173 national team matches, including FIFA World Cup 2026 qualifiers across five continents, and a series of friendlies, the October 2025 edition of the FIFA/Coca-Cola Men's World Rankings features some notable changes," the official FIFA website wrote.
The 2022 World Cup champions moved up one spot to second with 1,872.43 points following two wins in friendlies last October, 1-0 over Venezuela and 6-0 against Puerto Rico.
The Albiceleste overtook France, who dropped to third place after Les Bleus were held to a 2-2 draw by Iceland in European World Cup qualifying. They remain closely tied with Spain at the top (1,880.76 points).
Germany returned to the top 10 with 1,713.3 points after winning two matches this month. Germany dropped out of the top 10 in the September update when they finished 12th.

Germany achieved two victories in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers, a 4-0 victory over Luxembourg and a 1-0 victory over Northern Ireland. These six points put them top of the European qualifying standings with nine points.
Julian Nagelsmann's side have two remaining matches against Luxembourg and Slovakia in November, which will determine their progress to the 2026 World Cup.
Meanwhile, the four countries that rose the most in this update were Niger (108), the Faroe Islands (127), and Lesotho (144), all of which rose nine places.
Kosovo (84) saw the biggest rise in rankings, climbing seven places, a record high in its history. Syria (86) and Liberia (138) also rose six places.
Greece (48) and Sweden (40) were the two countries that experienced the biggest decline, after losing their two 2026 World Cup Qualifying matches in the European zone.
