Siblings contribute two gold medals to West Sumatra at the PON Self-Defense Games

Siblings Randa Rian Desta and Gilang Triwan Riandesta united in bringing home a gold medal in wrestling for West Sumatra in the 2025 National Martial Arts Games at the Djarum Arena in Kudus on Wednesday.

Randa competed in the 86 kg class, while his younger brother, Gilang, competed in the 65 kg class.

"Both of them successfully presented the first gold medal for the West Sumatra contingent in the event," said Deputy Secretary General for Achievement Development of KONI West Sumatra Dr. Risky Syahputra on the sidelines of the medal presentation at Djarum Arena Kaliputu, Kudus, Wednesday.

He appreciated the hard work of the two athletes and coaches, who had brought the first gold medal to West Sumatra.

Wrestling also contributed one bronze medal to West Sumatra, while taekwondo presented two bronze medals.

"From the start, we were targeting gold in wrestling. Thankfully, the results exceeded expectations, winning two gold medals and one bronze," said Risky.

West Sumatra is still targeting additional gold medals from the Tarung Derajat competition after three of its athletes reached the finals in different classes.

"Although our preparations were quite limited because the election of the West Sumatra KONI board of directors had just concluded, the athletes' enthusiasm was extraordinary. Thank you also to the wrestling and judo provincial administrations for their consistent support," he said.
