Minister of Communication and Digital Meutya Viada Hafid asked internet service providers (ISPs) to provide affordable and quality internet access for the Indonesian people, especially in areas where internet services are still relatively expensive.
"We ask that PJI make maximum efforts to provide affordable internet services to the public," said Meutya in a statement received and confirmed on Tuesday.
This request was also conveyed by Meutya during her audience with the Indonesian Internet Service Providers Association (APJII) at the Komdigi Office, Central Jakarta, Monday (27/10).
According to him, the government sees that there are still PJIs setting high prices in several areas due to a lack of competitors.
"Don't let it be that just because there are no competitors there, the rates are set arbitrarily," he stressed.
Meutya said the government understands that developing connectivity infrastructure requires significant investment, and that PJI needs profits to run its business. However, she believes these investment challenges can be overcome through collaborative measures.
"High costs are relative. Operators should be able to reduce costs through various means, including collaboration and infrastructure sharing ," he explained.
