The Ministry of Communication and Digital is utilizing the alternative energy source of sunlight for the operation of several Base Transceiver Station (BTS) infrastructure in remote, frontier, and outermost (3T) regions.
"In several areas, we are already using energy, not only from PLN but also from the sun," said Raden Wijaya Kusumawardhana, Expert Staff for Social, Economic, and Cultural Affairs at the Ministry of Communication and Digital Technology, during a discussion session in Central Jakarta on Thursday.
Wijaya gave an example, some BTS in Papua, Papua Mountains, and other remote areas operate using solar energy to ensure uninterrupted internet access in those areas.
"Digital infrastructure must also go hand in hand with physical infrastructure, namely energy, because in digitalization, energy is needed to be connected," he said.
