The Indonesian Women's 3x3 Basketball National Team concluded their campaign at the 2025 Asian Youth Games (AYG) by finishing in sixth place, after the young Indonesian team advanced to the quarterfinals in the tournament held in Manama, Bahrain.
"The women's 3x3 national team put in maximum effort, even though they didn't advance to the next round. Credit to the players and coaches for their performance," said Anthony Gunawan, Chairman of the 3x3 Board of the Indonesian Football Association (Perbasi), in a statement quoted in Jakarta on Wednesday.
The young Indonesian squad consisting of Inez Angelina Welly, Chelsea Aurelia, Fiorenza Celesta, and I Gusti Ayu Krisabela has performed solidly since the Pool B preliminary round.
They recorded four wins, over Palestine (16–12), Mongolia (17–7), Sri Lanka (17–11), and the Maldives (21–6), but lost to Thailand (6–21) and India (15–18). These results were enough to take Indonesia to the quarterfinals, where they ultimately lost to Taiwan 12–20.
According to Anthony, this result repeats a similar achievement a decade earlier, when the men's 3x3 national team also reached the quarterfinals at the 2013 Asian Youth Games. One of the team's players at that time was Rivaldo Tandra Pangesthio, who is now the manager of the men's 5x5 national basketball team for the 2025 SEA Games in Thailand.
"For 3x3, other countries are already very serious, some countries have even prepared their teams for the 2032 Olympics," said Anthony.
The women's 3x3 national team, coached by Andrey Rido Mahardhika, competed in this tournament with the direct support of Anthony Gunawan. Meanwhile, the men's 3x3 national team, consisting of Matthew Ivander, Miracle Christiano, Carlen Shaquille Al Fayes, and Seiya Yabe, was eliminated in the group stage.
