US Vice President in Israel to consolidate ceasefire and advance Gaza negotiations

Vance's visit comes after a meeting on Monday between Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and US envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner. Meanwhile, Hamas continues its talks in Cairo, headed by leader Khalil al-Hayya, to discuss the future of the ceasefire and post-war arrangements.

Later today, Vance is scheduled to visit the headquarters of the US Joint Command, which is tasked with assisting with stability efforts in Gaza.

Since the agreement came into effect, the government media office in Gaza documented more than 80 Israeli violations as of Sunday evening, resulting in the deaths of 97 Palestinians and the injury of more than 230 others.

The second phase of Trump's plan to end the war in Gaza calls for the deployment of an international peacekeeping force in the Strip, the withdrawal of the Israeli occupation army, and the disarmament of Hamas.

Remains and humanitarian aid file

Khalil al-Hayya, head of Hamas's negotiating delegation, affirmed the movement's full commitment to the ceasefire agreement and the terms of its first phase, including the handover of more remains of Israeli prisoners.

In an interview with Cairo News Channel on Monday evening, Al-Hayya explained that Hamas is "serious about returning all bodies, as stipulated in the agreement, so that each person can be buried with dignity." He noted that the remains of one of the prisoners captured during the October 7, 2023, attack were handed over on Monday, while Israel estimates that approximately 15 bodies remain inside the Gaza Strip.

Meanwhile, Palestinian authorities announced that Israel returned 15 Palestinian bodies on Tuesday, bringing the total number of returned bodies to 165.

For its part, the Gaza government said in a statement that the total amount of aid that has entered the Strip since the ceasefire began has reached only 986 trucks, out of the 6,600 trucks that were supposed to enter by Monday evening, October 20, 2025, according to the terms of the agreement.

The statement added that the average number of trucks entering Gaza daily does not exceed 89, compared to the 600 trucks expected to enter daily, considering this to reflect the continued policy of "strangulation and starvation" practiced by the occupation against more than 2.4 million Palestinians in the Gaza Strip

He considered this "reflects the continued policy of strangulation, starvation, and human blackmail practiced by the occupation against more than 2.4 million citizens in Gaza."

Coinciding with the outbreak of the genocidal war on October 8, 2023, Israel perpetrated a systematic starvation policy in the Gaza Strip, resulting in the deaths of 463 Palestinians, including 157 children.

The meager humanitarian aid reaching the Gaza Strip under the ceasefire agreement between Hamas and Israel, which took effect on October 10, has failed to break the famine or begin to address its effects, especially given the sharp deterioration in the economic conditions of most Palestinians, making it difficult for them to purchase food.

The two-year Israeli genocide turned the Palestinians of the Gaza Strip into "poverty," according to previous World Bank data. The genocide also resulted in the deaths of 68,216 Palestinians, the injury of 170,361 others, most of them children and women, and the destruction of 90 percent of the civilian infrastructure in the Strip
