Woman dies in bizarre way in France after car window accidentally closes: 'What the hell happened?'
A 65-year-old Belgian woman tragically died in France this summer. After her car suddenly began to reverse, she tried to pull the handbrake from outside through the window. This proved fatal, reports the news website Franceinfo.
The tragic accident occurred on June 13 in Bissy-sur-Fley, in the Saône-et-Loire department, where the Congolese woman lived. According to her family, she had forgotten to pull the handbrake on her Fiat 500 that fateful day. When the car began to roll backward, Delmotte tried to stop it through the window. She accidentally pressed the button that lowers the electric window. Her neck was then trapped between the window and the roof and she suffocated.
The woman's lifeless body was found by a friend, who had rushed to her house in concern when the woman failed to show up for a dinner appointment.
The shock among friends and family, who have since cremated the woman and had her ashes scattered, was immense. "At first, even the police were confused," her brother told Franceinfo. "They were really asking, 'What the hell happened?' I didn't understand it either. When they called me to tell me, I was confused, in denial. Overwhelmed with emotion, I told myself all sorts of things: that someone had attacked her, that she had committed suicide. And then, little by little, I understood."
Police have since closed their investigation and concluded that it was a tragic accident. The autopsy revealed no malicious intent or third-party involvement, the French website reports.
According to Franceinfo, the woman's brother doesn't intend to file a claim for damages, but has sent a letter to Fiat seeking clarification. "I don't intend to claim compensation because that won't bring my sister back," he told the website. "I just want to think about how we can prevent furth
er tragedies."
