Apple lowers commission for "mini apps" in the App Store

Apple has introduced a new scheme for mini app developers through the App Store Mini Apps Partner Program, which allows developers to pay a lower commission, namely 15 percent for certain in-app purchases, compared to the previous rate of 30 percent.

Mini apps are standalone experiences, typically web-based games, that run within a parent app. This technology has been supported for nearly a decade in the App Store, as reported by Tech Crunch on Friday.

Currently, various applications support mini apps , such as LINE, WeChat, and even gaming services within Discord. Artificial intelligence providers are also starting to enter this ecosystem, including ChatGPT, which provides mini apps for services like Booking.com, Spotify, Figma, and Canva.
