Flick: Red card changed Barcelona vs Chelsea

Barcelona coach Hans-Dieter 'Hansi' Flick said the red card changed the situation of his squad's match against Chelsea in the 2025/2026 UEFA Champions League at Stamford Bridge Stadium, London.

In the match held at Stamford Bridge Stadium, London, Barcelona player Ronald Araujo received a red card in the 44th minute. Chelsea, who had previously taken the lead through an own goal by Jules Kounde (27'), then closed the match with a 3-0 victory thanks to additional goals from Estevao (55') and Liam Delap (73').

"The red card changed the course of the game. It's not easy to catch up when you're short a man against a team like Chelsea," Flick said, as quoted on Barcelona's official website on Wednesday.

The German tactician also regretted Barcelona's clear opportunity in the fifth minute which Ferran Torres was unable to finish well.

Flick also assessed that his players lacked composure in possession. Going forward, he urged his players to be more focused and aggressive, especially against a top team like Chelsea.
