The Spanish national team made a surprising decision ahead of their final 2026 World Cup qualifiers by sending one of their young players, Dean Huijsen, home from training camp, just after their 4-0 victory over Georgia.
The Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) confirmed the 20-year-old Real Madrid defender was withdrawn from the squad due to a muscle problem.
"Dean Huijsen has been withdrawn from the squad for the final qualifying match against Turkey due to muscle discomfort, which also ruled him out of the match against Georgia," the RFEF wrote on its website on Monday.
Muscle problems made it impossible for him to perform optimally so he decided to return to Madrid.
Huijsen was an unused substitute as Spain beat Georgia.
He attended a training session earlier this week, but the muscle complaints returned and the medical team took a quick decision to send him home.
