McLaren Team Principal Andrea Stella apologized for the disqualification of two of his drivers, Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri, in the Formula 1 Las Vegas Grand Prix.
Norris and Piastri were disqualified from the race at the Las Vegas Street Circuit in Las Vegas on Sunday for overloading the plank.
"We apologize to Lando and Oscar for having to drop points today, at a critical time in their world championship fight after two strong performances all weekend. As a team, we also apologize to our partners and fans, whose support means so much to us," Stella said in an official McLaren statement on Monday.
Stella admitted that her team did not expect this excessive plank condition because during training and qualifying they did not experience high levels of pressure and contact.
"During the race, both car planks experienced unexpected pressure, quite high contact that was not seen in the practice session, which caused excessive contact with the ground," said Stella.
