The Ministry of Communication and Digital (Kemkomdigi) is inviting all parties to collaborate in enforcing Law Number 27 of 2022 concerning Personal Data Protection (PDP Law) to build trust in innovation and strengthen Indonesia's position as a major player in the global digital economy.
Deputy Minister of Communication and Digital Affairs Nezar Patria emphasized that public trust is the new "currency" in the digital era, with personal data protection as its foundation.
"Trust is the best investment, even becoming the new currency in today's interconnected world. By collaboratively enforcing the PDP Law, we are strengthening Indonesia's competitiveness on the global stage," Nezar said in a statement in Jakarta on Wednesday.
He revealed that throughout 2023, there were around three million data breach incidents in Indonesia, 62 percent of which involved the theft of personal information.
"We cannot allow the potential of the digital economy, worth hundreds of trillions of rupiah, to be threatened by billions in losses due to data leaks. Protecting personal data is a shared responsibility," he stressed.
