A number of outstanding achievements marked the International Basketball Federation (FIBA) 3x3 AmeriCup 2025, which was held in Leon, Mexico, on November 27-30.The FIBA 3x3 website stated on Monday that the fifth edition of the continental championship was competitive and presented several important records from both the men's and women's divisions.
The first achievement was the United States national team, which once again proved its dominance by winning two gold medals. The men's national team defended their title for the fourth time, showing impressive performances from the opening round to the final.
Rookie Cameron Forte excelled with 34 points and was named MVP. They defeated Puerto Rico again in the final to reach the 2024 finals again.
In the women's team, the country also achieved a historic achievement by completing the tournament undefeated and claiming its third title. They avenged last year's defeat with a dramatic 21-19 victory over Canada.
Allisha Gray, who previously won gold at the Tokyo 3x3 Olympics, was a key pillar with nine points in the final and was named MVP.
Canada maintained its status as the United States' strongest competitor in the women's team. Katherine Plouffe once again confirmed her quality by being named to the tournament's best team, while Paige Crozon performed consistently throughout the competition.
After opening the season with the Champions Cup title, Canada ended the year on a positive note despite failing to defend their title.
Another achievement came in the men's event. This time, Puerto Rico achieved a significant milestone by winning its fourth consecutive medal.
Antonio Ralat was the tournament's top scorer with 46 points, while newcomer Michael Wesley contributed significantly. Despite losing to the United States in the final, they cemented their position as the second-highest power in the Americas.
Then, the next achievement was when the Brazilian national team maintained its record of five consecutive medal wins in the women's category, after a narrow 17-16 victory over Puerto Rico in the bronze medal match.
Luana de Souza is once again the driving force behind the attack, asserting her country's position as one of the three great powers alongside the US and Canada.
Finally, the event was held for the first time outside the United States and Puerto Rico.
