After threatening a boycott, Iran decided to attend the World Cup draw.

The Iranian Football Federation (FFIRI) has decided to attend the 2026 World Cup draw in Washington DC, United States (US) after initially threatening to boycott it due to the US government's entry ban policy. A

spokesperson for the Iranian Football Federation (FFIRI) had previously stated firmly to FIFA that Iran would not attend the event.

"We have informed FIFA that the decision taken is not related to sports and that members of the Iranian delegation will not participate in the World Cup draw," the spokesperson said, as quoted by Aljazeera.

The boycott threat stemmed from US President Donald Trump's policy issued in June 2025, in which the affected countries include Afghanistan, Myanmar, Chad, Congo, Equatorial Guinea, Eritrea, Haiti, Iran, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, and Yemen.

As a result of the rule, the Iranian delegation was initially threatened with being unable to attend the US, one of the 2026 World Cup hosts along with Canada and Mexico.
