The doctor warned that excessive consumption of spicy foods and hot drinks may increase the risk of developing stomach and esophageal cancer, which are among the most dangerous types of cancer, according to Russian media.
He explained that this risk stems from the repeated exposure of the stomach and esophagus's mucous membranes to hot or very hot foods and drinks, leading to chronic inflammation that increases the likelihood of developing malignant tumors. He said,
"The disease can be controlled and treated if detected early, but in advanced stages, it remains a leading cause of death among those affected, and the severity of the disease depends on the stage at which it is discovered."
Dr. Suleimanov added that the process involves the mucous membrane constantly attempting to regenerate, leading to intensive cell division. Over time, some cells may divide abnormally, resulting in the growth of a cancerous tumor.
To reduce this risk, the doctor advised adopting a healthy lifestyle, explaining that it's not necessary to completely give up spicy foods or usual hot drinks, such as a morning cup of coffee or winter soup, but it's important to avoid direct exposure to intense heat as much as possible.
He emphasized waiting a few minutes for hot drinks to cool down and reducing the use of salt and hot spices in salads and main dishes.
