Indonesian tennis player Janice Tjen will start 2026 as the fifth seed in the first WTA 250 tournament of the new season, the ASB Classic in Auckland, New Zealand.
Quoted from the official WTA website, Tuesday, Janice will compete alongside rising stars and tennis legends.
Defending champions Clara Tauson and Coco Gauff will compete in Brisbane and the United Cup respectively, opening up a huge opportunity for a new champion.
However, there are plenty of young stars to keep an eye on. New Zealand's Lulu Sun will be the home crowd favorite, as the 24-year-old qualified directly with a No. 90 ranking.
The 2024 Wimbledon quarter-finalist won her first WTA 125 title in Jingshan, China in September and reached the final in Guangzhou in October.
Besides Janice, the Filipina tennis player who won the women's singles title at the 2025 SEA Games in Thailand, Alexandra Eala, will also make her debut at the event.
Janice closed the 2025 season with a 125-tournament title in Jinan and a 250-tournament title in Chennai. In 2025, Eala became the first Filipino player to break into the top 50 and is seeking her first tour-level title.
