Disney has signed a partnership with OpenAI that will allow Disney's iconic characters to be used in the artificial intelligence (AI)-based video generator Sora.
As reported by Tech Crunch on Tuesday, Disney CEO Bob Iger confirmed that the three-year licensing partnership with OpenAI will only cover one year of exclusivity. After the one-year period ends, Disney will be free to enter into similar agreements with other AI companies.
The deal secures OpenAI a major content partner, as Sora users can leverage over 200 characters from the Disney universe, including Marvel, Pixar, and Star Wars, to create video content. Sora is currently the only AI platform legally permitted to use these characters.
