The 2026 World Cup trophy will arrive in Jakarta in January next year, after Indonesia was selected along with two other Southeast Asian countries to have an exclusive viewing of the trophy won by Lionel Messi with Argentina in 2022 in Qatar.
This was announced directly by the Senior Director of Public Affairs, Communications, and Sustainability of PT Coca-Cola Indonesia, Triyono Prijosoesilo, in a press conference for the "People's Football Festival" held together with Garuda Gemah Nusantara (GGN) at the Soemantri Brodjonegoro Stadium, South Jakarta, Wednesday.
"Next year, there's the World Cup, and Coca-Cola happens to be FIFA's exclusive partner. We'll be taking the original trophy around the world, and one of those countries is Indonesia. Indonesia is one of only three Southeast Asian countries selected," Triyono said.
The trophy will be present in Jakarta on January 22nd and will be exhibited at the Convention Center (JCC) from morning until night
Malaysia and Thailand also got the opportunity to see the 2026 World Cup trophy in person.
"There will definitely be guest stars, God willing. We also still need FIFA's approval regarding guest stars. So, we've submitted several names that we've proposed that would be very relevant to Indonesia. But we're waiting for FIFA's approval. So, this is still a process. Once we have the final name, it will be announced immediately," said Triyono.
The World Cup trophy will be a rare opportunity for Indonesian football fans to get closer to the world's biggest quadrennial football tournament, which will be contested by 48 teams next year.
