Youth and Sports Minister Erick Thohir confirmed that the National Sports Grand Design (DBON) will be revised, including implementing a promotion and relegation system for leading sports.
"There will be improvements to the DBON itself because the previous and current sports are somewhat different, especially with the revised DBON, which has a promotion and relegation system," Erick Thohir told the media after a meeting with the management and athletes of the Indonesian Padel Association (PBPI) in Jakarta on Tuesday.
He explained that in the revised DBON, there will be 21 sports branches designated as superior which will be officially announced.
All leading sports will compete to improve their achievements because if there is a performance crisis, their position as leaders could be replaced by other sports that have achieved brilliant achievements in international events.
"So, that doesn't mean these 21 sports are safe. The next evaluation will be in 2028 (the Olympic year), with the targets being the SEA Games, Asian Games, and then the Olympics. There, we will re-evaluate the promotion and relegation process," he said.
The Minister of Youth and Sports explained that, after the 21 leading sports branches are inaugurated, his party will discuss it with the Financial and Development Supervisory Agency and the Attorney General's Office because each sport's assessment differs regarding funding and targets.
"So, don't let it happen that, despite good intentions, you end up violating state regulations. Because I really have to protect my friends in sports organizations," he said.
