AES: Mali engages in the production of civilian explosives

Mali is engaged in the production of civilian explosives with the acquisition of a majority share of the capital of a company specializing in the manufacture of pyrotechnic articles.

A press release published following a Council of Ministers indicates that this decision is part of the implementation of the reforms undertaken in the mining sector since the adoption of the new Mining Code.

The Malian state now holds 51% of the capital of the Société Industrielle du Center du Mali FARATCHI-CO-SA.

This company was created in partnership with the Chinese company Auxin, following a shareholders' agreement signed in November 2024.

This involves strengthening the management of explosives for civil use, developing a local industry and improving monitoring and security mechanisms linked to their use, particularly in mining activities, according to the information note.

Civil explosives are used mainly in industrial gold mining, quarries and some civil engineering works.

Mali, one of the main gold producers on the African continent, historically depends on imports for the supply of this type of sensitive product.
