Life expectancy in the United States rose to 79 years in 2024, the highest level in American history.
It is noted that the rise in life expectancy is not only due to the decline of the coronavirus pandemic, but also to the decline in death rates from the country’s main causes of death, which include heart disease, cancer and drug overdoses.
Robert Anderson, from the National Center for Health Statistics at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, which released the 2024 data on Thursday, said: "This is very good news."
Over the decades, life expectancy in America has increased, albeit slightly each year, thanks to medical advances and public health measures.
During 2024, 3.07 million people died, 18,000 fewer than in 2023. Death rates declined across all racial groups and between men and women.
