Bloomberg: Lawsuit filed against Meta over misleading information about WhatsApp privacy and security

Bloomberg reported that a group of plaintiffs from different countries filed a lawsuit against Meta, accusing it of spreading misleading information about the privacy and security of the WhatsApp messaging application.

The lawsuit, filed in the U.S. District Court in San Francisco, California, states that Meta's claims that its end-to-end encryption technology only allows the sender and recipient to access messages are false.

The prosecution asserted that Meta and WhatsApp "store, analyze, and have access to all user communications that are supposed to be private." Consequently, the company is misleading billions of WhatsApp users worldwide, according to plaintiffs from Australia, Brazil, India, Mexico, and South Africa.

Their claims are based on information obtained from anonymous informants.

A Meta spokesperson told Bloomberg that the lawsuit is baseless and that claims that WhatsApp messages are unencrypted are "completely false and ridiculous."
