CAN 2025: Burkina sacks Brama Traoré from the post of coach

Burkina Faso have sacked coach Brama Traoré and his assistants following the team's disappointing performance at the Africa Cup of Nations.

The Burkinabè Football Federation declared on Wednesday that the route to CAN 2025 in Morocco was "well below the objectives set for the national team". The Burkina Faso reached the round of 16, where he lost 3-0 to the reigning champion, the Ivory Coast.

"This poor performance caused deep disappointment among supporters, national football players and governing bodies", indicated the federation. "As a reminder, the objective clearly established before the start of CAN 2025 was to reach at least the semi-finals, in accordance with the positive dynamic and honorable performances achieved by the national team during previous editions."

Burkina Faso was also eliminated in the round of 16 during the previous tournament. However, the Stallions reached the semi-finals of the 2021 edition, where they lost to the future champion, the Senegal.

The federation thanked Traoré and his colleagues for their services since 2024 and assured "to all supporters and partners that immediate arrangements will be made to initiate a new technical staff selection process".

Burkina Faso did not qualify for the 2026 World Cup. Attention is now turning to qualifications for the CAN 2027, which will be held in Tanzania, at Kenya and in Uganda.
