The Senegalese African champions returned to Dakar on Monday evening. A triumphant return for the Lions of Teranga, welcomed by the President of the Republic and a huge crowd who came to salute their historic journey at the African Cup of Nations played in Morocco.
As soon as they got off the plane, the Senegalese players were welcomed by President Bassirou Diomaye Faye and hundreds of supporters gathered at Dakar international airport. Joy, fervor and strong emotions marked this return of the new kings of African football.
Throughout the competition, watching them play, we felt that they had this mission in mind, that they were keen to bring back this cup and make the Senegalese people proud. They did it heroically. They played magnificent football, they were incredibly fair and exemplary, both on and off the pitch. We can only be proud of them, stressed Bassirou Diomaye Faye, President of Senegal.
Since Sunday's final, Senegal has always lived to the rhythm of victory. Fans continue to celebrate their heroes. Many waited for hours at the airport, determined to see, approach and sometimes touch their idols.
We are here to celebrate our cup, the African champions, to welcome the players, our African champion Sadio Mané and the entire Senegalese team. We are happy today, we are proud to be Senegalese Bamba Sene, Senegalese supporter.
