Doctors at the Sverdlovsk Oncology Center in Russia successfully performed a complex surgery to remove a giant tumor weighing more than 60 kilograms from the abdomen of a 50-year-old man

The press office of the Russian Ministry of Health said in a statement on the subject: "Doctors at the Sverdlovsk Regional Oncology Center successfully removed a huge tumor weighing more than 60 kilograms from the abdomen of a 50-year-old patient. The man's abdomen had been growing for about 20 years without raising any suspicion of a life-threatening condition."

Because of its large size, the tumor was pressing on the inferior vena cava in the man's body, displacing the intestines, bladder, and other organs completely, to occupy almost the entire abdominal cavity.

The tumor removal surgery took approximately eight hours, and the doctors explained that they had never encountered a similar case in their 30 years of medical practice. The tumor was a type of liposarcoma , a malignant tumor that initially grows slowly without causing symptoms, but becomes troublesome and dangerous when it reaches a significant size.

In his comment, the patient said: "My stomach started to swell when I was thirty-three years old. Until the age of fifty, I did not feel any discomfort, I moved easily and my build was strong, and it did not affect my work. But after fifty, the situation became difficult, so I went to the doctors, and this large tumor was discovered."
