Iran's national futsal team coach Vahid Shamsaee did not want to talk much about their chances of becoming champions for the 14th time in the Futsal Asia Cup, which will be held in Indonesia this year.
Shamsaee admitted that he is bringing a new team to the 2026 Futsal Asia Cup to revitalize the team. This team, he said, is different from the one that Iran won in Thailand at the 2024 Futsal Asia Cup and also competed in the 2024 Futsal World Cup in Uzbekistan.
“We cannot live in the past,” Shamsaee said at a pre-match press conference on Tuesday.
"The last victory is over. In the last three years, especially after the last World Cup, we made a lot of changes to the team," he added.
This regeneration, Shamsaee said, is to maintain and improve the team's standing in Asia and globally. Following the 2026 Futsal Asia Cup, this prestigious Asian futsal tournament will be held in 2028, serving as a qualifying round for the 2028 Futsal World Cup.
