Indonesia is the first country to block Grok to protect digital space
Indonesia, through the Ministry of Communication and Digital (Kemkomdigi), has officially become the first country in the world to temporarily suspend access to the artificial intelligence (AI)-based chatbot application Grok in an effort to maintain a safe and ethical digital space.

In a press release in Jakarta on Sunday, Minister of Communication and Digital (Menkomdigi) Meutya Hafid emphasized that the practice of using sexual deepfakes without consent is a serious violation of human rights and the dignity of citizens.

"To protect women, children, and the entire community from the risk of fake pornographic content generated using artificial intelligence technology, the government is temporarily suspending access to the Grok application," said Communication and Digital Minister Meutya.
