Instagram has confirmed that its users' accounts are secure, following a report by cybersecurity firm Malwarebytes that alleged a leak of sensitive data belonging to around 17.5 million Instagram users.
As reported by Engadget on Monday, Malwarebytes previously reported finding a data set containing sensitive information such as Instagram usernames, physical addresses, phone numbers, email addresses, and other data that was said to be available for sale on dark web forums and at risk of being misused by cybercriminals.
The security firm said the findings were obtained from routine monitoring of activity on the dark web and are suspected to be related to the Instagram application programming interface (API) leak incident in 2024.
