Denver Nuggets star Nikola Jokic's left knee injury could potentially impact the race for the 2025/2026 NBA Most Valuable Player (MVP) title, as the team must play a minimum of 65 games to qualify for the individual award.
Citing the official NBA website, former NBA star Tracy McGrady assessed Jokic's absence as a big blow for the Denver Nuggets and the MVP race.
"It's a sad day for me because this is my favorite player to watch. If I'm paying to watch a player, I'm paying to watch Jokic. This is a huge blow to his team because you're talking about a front-runner for MVP," McGrady said.
Jokic suffered a hyperextension of his left knee in the Miami game and is expected to be re-evaluated in four weeks. This will likely keep him out for the entirety of January.
The situation opens up the risk of Jokic not reaching the NBA's required 65-game threshold for regular-season award eligibility.
