Indonesian men's singles player Jonatan Christie kept the Indonesian team's hopes alive at the 2026 BWF World Tour Super 1000 Malaysia Open after advancing to the semifinals.
The fourth seed defeated Japanese representative Kodai Naraoka in two straight games 21-17, 21-13 in the quarter-final match held at the Axiata Arena, Kuala Lumpur, Friday.
"Praise God, I'm grateful to have played well and implemented the right strategy. I'm happy to have reached the semifinals of the Super 1000 tournament again," said Jonatan in an official statement from the Indonesian Badminton Association (PP PBSI) after the match.
Jonatan displayed solid, patient, and effective play, particularly when controlling the tempo of the match during crucial moments. He acknowledged that the key to victory lay in composure and successfully reading the opponent's game patterns.
