Ter Stegen's name has been linked with a possible move to Barcelona's neighbor Girona in the Catalonia region during the winter transfer window in January.
This comes after the German goalkeeper fell out of favor with his compatriot Hansi Flick, the Barcelona coach, as he became third in his options.
According to the Spanish newspaper "Mundo Deportivo", Girona has reached a "near-final agreement" with both Barcelona and Ter Stegen to sign the German goalkeeper on loan until the end of the season during the current winter transfer window.
The Catalan newspaper indicated that Ter Stegen agreed to a salary reduction, which will be borne by both Barcelona and Girona, as his new club will pay approximately one million euros, while "Barca" will cover 90% of the salary.
It is worth noting that Ter Stegen's contract with Barcelona extends until the summer of 2028, knowing that he had entered into a public dispute with the club's management before the start of the season because of his desire to continue, contrary to the management's wishes.
