Russian doctor reveals some mistakes in treating cystitis

In an interview with the Russian newspaper Gazeta.ru, the doctor said: "One of the most important mistakes that doctors make in treating cystitis is choosing the wrong antibiotic. One of the main causes of cystitis is Escherichia coli bacteria, and this strain of bacteria may be resistant to antibiotics, especially if the patient has taken them continuously in previous treatments. There are other causes of cystitis such as Klebsiella bacteria, Enterococcus bacteria, Staphylococcus aureus bacteria, or even fungi and viruses, which makes traditional treatment protocols with antibiotics ineffective. Also, prescribing an antibiotic without first analyzing the urine may lead to choosing an inappropriate drug."

The doctor also pointed out that a doctor’s misdiagnosis plays an important role in such medical cases as well, since many diseases have symptoms similar to those of cystitis, including urethritis, kidney stones, or non-bacterial cystitis.

Prachikova emphasized that the patient's incorrect adherence to the medication also hinders the treatment of the disease. Some patients forget to take some doses of the medication, or take them at irregular times, or take their medication with other incompatible medications, and all these factors delay the treatment process.

The doctor noted that the presence of other diseases in a patient with cystitis, such as diabetes, immunodeficiency, or hormonal imbalances, can hinder the healing process and increase the likelihood of the infection recurring.
