The Indonesian Badminton Association (PBSI) believes the 2026 Indonesia Masters tournament demonstrates the beginning of a shift in the role of younger players, with the majority of semifinalists being young athletes, despite Indonesia's suboptimal results.
PBSI's Head of Development and Achievement, Eng Hian, said Indonesia's achievement at the 2026 Indonesia Masters demonstrated significant development among young players.
"Compared to last year's Indonesia Masters, Indonesia also had two representatives in the final, but they were both senior players. This year, the majority of the semifinalists are young players who were previously underrated," said Eng Hian at the Istora Gelora Bung Karno in Senayan, Jakarta, on Sunday.
Indonesia won a title after Alwi Farhan defeated Thailand's men's singles player Panitchapon Teerasatsakul 21-5, 21-6.
Men's doubles pair Raymond Indra/Nikolaus Joaquin had to settle for runner-up after being defeated by fourth seeds Goh Sze Fei/Nur Izzuddin 19-21, 13-21.
