The Ministry of Communication and Digital (Kemkomdigi) stated that the spread of radicalism in online gaming platforms is carried out through interactions on social features such as private chat , voice chat , and communities.Alexander Sabar, Director General of Digital Space Supervision at the Ministry of Communication and Digital Affairs, stated that the National Counterterrorism Agency (BNPT) is monitoring several interaction- and community-based online gaming platforms due to their potential for misuse for radicalization, particularly against children.
"What is of concern is not the content of online games , but rather the use of interactive features such as private chat , voice chat , and communities within the game," Alexander told ANTARA in Jakarta on Thursday.
He explained that the social features in games can be misused to build personal relationships with child users ( grooming ). The perpetrators then direct users to closed channels outside the game platform and gradually expose them to intolerant narratives and radical ideologies.
