US health authorities have pulled popular dietary supplements from the market after dozens were infected with salmonella, in an urgent move to protect consumers

Currently, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention are investigating a salmonella outbreak linked to Live it Up's "Super Greens" powdered nutritional supplement.

New York-based Superfoods, Inc. responded by voluntarily recalling its products, including the original and cranberry flavors, after health authorities recommended that these products be withdrawn from the market.

Data collected by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention showed that 45 people contracted salmonella between August 22 and December 30, 2025, including 20 who reported taking these supplements, while 12 cases required hospitalization, with no deaths reported.

The infected people lived in 21 US states, including Alabama, Connecticut, Delaware, Iowa, Illinois, Kentucky, Massachusetts, Michigan, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Utah, Washington, and Wisconsin.

Health authorities warned of the potential contamination of other products with salmonella bacteria and urged consumers who purchased the contaminated powders not to use them, but to dispose of them or return them to the point of purchase. They also recommended washing and disinfecting any utensils and surfaces that may have come into contact with these powders to reduce the risk of spreading the bacteria.

Salmonella is commonly found in food contaminated with animal feces, and is most prevalent in poultry, red meat, dairy products, eggs, fish, fruits, and vegetables. Symptoms of infection typically appear six hours to six days after exposure and include bloody diarrhea, fever, and stomach cramps.

While most people recover within four to seven days, the bacteria can sometimes spread to the bloodstream and other organs, causing serious complications in the most vulnerable groups (children, the elderly, and people with weakened immune systems).
