The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) has issued a warning about personal care products available in major stores and online after discovering potential health risks that could affect children.

Warning about personal care products that may endanger children's lives in the United States

Florida-based Planttimex recalled 50,000 tubes of its $10 pain-relieving ointment, Mamisan, after discovering it contained lidocaine, a local anesthetic that can cause cardiac arrest if swallowed.

The yellow plastic containers hold 3.52 ounces, but they are not child-resistant, posing a significant risk if they fall into a child's hands. The ointment is used to relieve muscle pain and is popular among those seeking natural remedies.

The product was sold throughout the United States between April 2024 and October 2025. The CPSC advised customers to keep the packages away from children and to contact the company for child-resistant covers.

Meanwhile, Feel the Beard recalled about 840 bottles of 30ml beard growth oil after discovering they contained minoxidil, which can cause a sharp drop in blood pressure and may lead to death if swallowed.

The product was not packaged in child-resistant containers, despite US law requiring such packaging for products containing minoxidil. It was sold through Amazon and across the United States between April and September 2025.

General warnings

CPSC officials confirmed that both products pose a serious risk to children due to the lack of child-resistant packaging. No injuries or deaths have been reported to date.

Statistics indicate that approximately 60,000 children under the age of five are hospitalized annually in the United States as a result of poisoning, including exposure to over-the-counter medications, while the number of deaths in this age group is approximately 49 children per year.
