Liverpool manager Arne Slot admitted that the 2025/2026 season will be the most difficult period of his coaching career.
The Dutch coach believes his team's current performance does not reflect the standards inherent in Liverpool.
"This season has been the toughest, far more so than any other season I've ever been through," Slot was quoted as saying by BBC Sport on Tuesday.
"In previous seasons, there were always positives. I rarely lost two games in a row like this."
The defeat to Manchester City two days ago left Liverpool slumped to sixth place.
The Reds are four points behind fifth-placed Chelsea and only ahead of seventh-placed Brentford on goal difference.
Slot, who replaced Jurgen Klopp in June 2024, led Liverpool to their 20th Premier League title.
However, Liverpool's performance has declined this season despite the club spending nearly £450 million on players, including breaking the British transfer record by signing Alexander Isak for £125 million.
