Dr. Irina Volgina, Associate Professor in the Department of Internal Medicine at the University of Education, points out that dry skin can be caused by external and internal factors.

According to her, factors affecting dry skin include poor skincare, climatic conditions, vitamin deficiencies, dehydration, malnutrition, and certain medical conditions.

She explains: "Internal causes include, firstly, malnutrition and vitamin and mineral deficiencies, as well as excessive consumption of refined carbohydrates and trans fats. Not drinking enough water is also a contributing factor; for example, drinking coffee without replacing it with water can lead to dehydration. Secondly, smoking."

The third factor refers to chronic diseases such as atopic dermatitis, eczema, psoriasis, ichthyosis, and diabetes, as well as thyroid and gastrointestinal disorders. Dry skin can also result from the misuse of certain medications, such as diuretics, retinoids, and some other drugs.
