US President Donald Trump expressed surprise at the boos his Vice President JD Vance received in Italy during the opening ceremony of the Milan-Cortina Winter Olympics on Friday evening.
Vance was booed by the crowd at Milan's San Siro stadium when he and his wife appeared in the VIP area on the stadium's big screen, while the American team was applauded as they entered the arena during the parade of nations.
When Trump was informed of the news by reporters aboard Air Force One, he said: "Is that true? That's surprising. People love him. I mean, it's fair to say he's in a foreign country. He's not booed in this country (the United States)."
Vance arrived in Milan last Thursday, attended a women's ice hockey game, and held talks with Giorgia Meloni, the Prime Minister of Italy.
