"We have a lying prime minister": Gallant rejects Netanyahu's justification for the failure on "October 7"

Gallant told Israel's Channel 12 that "we have a lying prime minister... while our soldiers were dying, he chose to stab them in the back," adding that the release of the documents was an attempt to shift blame onto others and incite against the leaders of the security establishment.

He continued, saying: “Contrary to what he claims, Netanyahu did not support the assassination of the former Secretary-General of Hezbollah, Hassan Nasrallah,” accusing him of adopting an approach “based on transferring funds to Hamas under the pretext that Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas refuses to pay for Gaza.”

In the same context, Gallant said that ministers in Netanyahu’s government attacked army commanders in meetings of the Security Cabinet, and that he “did not allow this to pass,” referring to ongoing tension between the political level and the leadership of the military establishment in the aftermath of the war.

On October 7, 2023, Hamas and Palestinian factions launched an operation they called "Al-Aqsa Flood," in which they attacked 11 military bases and 22 settlements, to "end the 18-year Israeli siege on Gaza and to thwart Tel Aviv's plans to liquidate the Palestinian cause and impose its sovereignty over Al-Aqsa Mosque," according to a statement by the movement.

Many security, political and military officials in Tel Aviv saw the October 7, 2023 attack as a security, intelligence, military and political failure.

Blaming the army

Late on Thursday evening, Netanyahu published the responses he submitted to the State Comptroller regarding the events of October 7, 2023, and those preceding it, explaining that he submitted those responses at the end of 2025.

During those responses, Netanyahu reiterated his evasion of responsibility for the failures of the events of October 7 , 2023 , and blamed the army and previous governments, according to what was reported by Hebrew media at the time.

According to the same sources, Netanyahu sought, through publishing excerpts from minutes of government and security discussions, to show that security and political officials opposed decisive steps against Hamas or downplayed the level of threat, while presenting himself as pushing for the assassination of the movement’s leaders and preparing for broader options in Gaza.

Netanyahu refuses to form an official commission of inquiry into the events of October 7 , 2023, for fear that he will be blamed for what happened, and he always places the responsibility on the army and the Israeli intelligence services.

Since the attack more than two years ago, numerous Israeli military, security and political leaders have declared that they bear personal responsibility for the failure to prevent the attack, but Netanyahu refuses to take any personal responsibility.

On October 8, 2023, Israel, with American support, began a two-year war of genocide on the Gaza Strip, resulting in approximately 72,000 Palestinian martyrs and more than 171,000 wounded, in addition to widespread destruction affecting about 90 percent of the civilian infrastructure, with reconstruction costs estimated by the United Nations at about $70 billion.
