Alexander Zverev has withdrawn from the ABN AMRO Open in Rotterdam, following Carlos Alcaraz's earlier decision.
"It's a shame to have to make this decision. At the ABN AMRO Open, I was given a chance as a young player, and that's why I always enjoy coming back," Zverev was quoted as saying by the ATP on Thursday.
"However, given my history with ankle injuries, I have to prioritize my recovery and can't take any risks. I wish everyone in Rotterdam a great week."
Zverev last competed in Rotterdam in 2023, losing to Tallon Griekspoor in the second round. The 28-year-old has competed in the ATP 500 event six times previously.
"Given his history, we certainly want to see Alexander back on the court, but we also understand his decision here. Everyone still remembers the images and impact of his previous ankle injury," said ABN AMRO Open tournament director Richard Krajicek.
