In addition to extending lifespan, the compound improved indicators of so-called "healthy aging" in laboratory worms, as the animals, after taking it, showed higher mobility, retained the ability to reproduce, and had reduced signs of cellular aging and fat accumulation.
Laboratory analyses also revealed that the compound "BDMC" plays a key role through its effect on signaling pathways associated with the epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) – an important system for cell regulation in the body.
The researchers noted that their findings were based on experiments conducted on laboratory animals, but they highlight the potential of natural food compounds as possible ingredients for maintaining healthy longevity.
