A natural substance that prolongs life and improves health in old age

A recent scientific study has shown that a compound found in turmeric helps to prolong life and improve health in old age

The researchers conducted their study on laboratory worms, testing the effect of several compounds extracted from turmeric on the health of these organisms. They found that the compound "BDMC" had the most prominent effect, and that continuous exposure to this substance increased the average lifespan of the worms by approximately 17.7%, and the increase reached 24.2% when taken in middle age. Moreover, the organisms that took this substance became more able to withstand heat stress.

In addition to extending lifespan, the compound improved indicators of so-called "healthy aging" in laboratory worms, as the animals, after taking it, showed higher mobility, retained the ability to reproduce, and had reduced signs of cellular aging and fat accumulation.

Laboratory analyses also revealed that the compound "BDMC" plays a key role through its effect on signaling pathways associated with the epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) – an important system for cell regulation in the body.

The researchers noted that their findings were based on experiments conducted on laboratory animals, but they highlight the potential of natural food compounds as possible ingredients for maintaining healthy longevity.
