Dr. Tiffany Monica, a policy analyst for primary referral benefits guarantees at the Indonesian Health Insurance stated that the cost of treating kidney failure per patient in 2025 will be higher than that for heart disease.
In a health discussion commemorating World Kidney Day 2026 in Jakarta on Wednesday, Tiffany said that BPJS Kesehatan throughout 2025 will spend around Rp13 trillion for treating kidney failure.
This figure places kidney failure as the second highest cost, after heart disease, which reaches IDR 17 trillion.
Despite being in second place, Tiffany continued, if we look at the number of people, there are only around 640 thousand kidney failure patients, much fewer than the 3 million heart patients.
This means that approximately 600,000 kidney failure patients can access the Rp13 trillion in funding, while three million people can access the Rp17 trillion for heart care.
