In the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), the government has pledged to work with the UN to establish the facts following the drone attack in Goma.
In a statement, Kinshasa authorities paid tribute to the victims, bowing in memory of those who perished. The government also indicated that the exact circumstances of these incidents, including the origin of the explosions, are currently under investigation by the relevant authorities to fully clarify the facts.
Kinshasa, however, reaffirmed that the protection of civilians and humanitarian actors depends first and foremost on the withdrawal of Rwandan troops and their allies in the AFC/M23 movement, accused of illegally occupying certain areas of Congolese territory. The Congolese government also believes that security can only be fully guaranteed with the complete restoration of state authority throughout the national territory.
For its part, the UN called for a full investigation into the circumstances of this incident. The organization stressed the need for "a swift, independent, and credible investigation to identify those responsible and bring them to justice."
