First aid for GERD during homecoming travel

Internal Medicine Specialist Subspecialist Gastroenterology Hepatology graduate of the University of Indonesia Dr. dr. Hasan Maulahela, Sp. PD, Subsp. GEH (K) said it is important to know the right treatment if there are symptoms of Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease  during the homecoming trip, especially if still observing the fast.

"If you experience GERD symptoms while traveling and fasting, take the following steps to relieve symptoms," he said in an official statement received.

The first step suggested by Hasan is to loosen your clothes. If wearing a belt or tight clothing, loosen it immediately because pressure on the stomach can worsen the backflow of stomach acid.

Second, sit up straight, don't slouch or curl up. If possible, lean back with your head and chest higher than your stomach to utilize gravity to prevent stomach acid from rising further.
